As a former Graphic Designer turned painter, I am fascinated with how cast shadows can transform a complex subject or set of subjects into a single two-dimensional shape. The distortions caused by the angle and intensity of the light and the subtle color and opacity fluctuations within each shadow’s abstracted shape make for interesting subjects despite their flat nature. All of these shadows were seen on my daily walk around my neighborhood. My goal is to help the viewer notice the simple beauty all around them and that the shadow can be as intriguing as the object of its origin.
