About Var Gallery & Studios

Var is a contemporary art gallery located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, committed to supporting both emerging and established artists on a local and national level. Through a diverse range of artistic practices and media, we present exhibitions that engage and challenge audiences. Var actively collaborates with artists, cultural producers, and community members to foster dialogue and promote cultural exchange. Renowned for its ambitious programming and inclusive atmosphere, the gallery serves as a vibrant space for experiencing art in a socially engaging setting. Var Studios houses 74 Milwaukee based artists at both 2nd & 5th street locations. In addition to our regular programming, Var Studios 5th Street location hosts The Drawing Room and Hawthorn Contemporary. Var Gallery's 2nd Street location's upper level showcases affordable artworks through our Small Works Gallery as well as hosts To Hell & Back Vintage Retail on the lower level as well as a Neon shop in the rear of the building that hosts intro and intermediate classes throughout the year. The gallery was founded by Josh Hintz in 2013, and today thrives as a center point for Milwaukee’s visual arts community.
