Winnie Lee
Growing up in Florida, I was enchanted by the jewel toned landscape, endless blue skies, and collecting earth trinkets for my dresser displays. I thought it was so lucky when I found one with holes so I could string them onto necklaces. Moving to Virginia opened a whole other world of nature to explore and be inspired by.
Originally focused on exclusively paintings, I didn't always feel that I was able to express my vision as I wanted. Embroidery became a whole new way to express myself with art, from the water colored canvas to the different string weights that I use to create texture. The last piece of my embroidery puzzle was trinkets. It started with me tying seashells onto my embroidery projects and that pushed the bounds of my creativity.
I use my art to create wonder and nostalgia. I find so much joy in embroidery and now that I've been using random trinkets with my embroidery, I have more ways to express how I feel about moments in time and the daydreams I’ve had while being surrounded by nature and color.
