These canvases are made out of clothes found in the deep dark American swamp, just laying there in the mud. A long blue skirt that used to be my little sister’s, a white button down, and an old pair of jeans. Here it used to be a forest but the lake filled and the water rose all of a sudden, unexpectedly, in the space between the trees. My grandma Sally said it used to be like that, when she was a kid. She said the ground could give way under your feet at any moment, and you could sink up to your neck in the muck. How can our clothes protect us?
