Abrahm Guthrie

Walking and drawing in the woods in Wisconsin during the winter months was both daunting and full of elation and surprise. The cold heightened my awareness of the changes of the natural world. In the woods I became attuned to the atmospheric effects that modify the saturation of the blues, greys and deep browns. I saw the foliage drop to reveal the shapes of the smooth hills against the craggy terrain, and the shapes that the leafless trees made against the sky. For a month I lived in the microcosm of prairie and forest just out my door, along the frozen path, only blocks from the bustling city.
