Fueled by an affinity for the absurd, my work depicts a world of Metaverse Fruitcakes—crazy and eccentric quasi-human characters who flip our notions of normal upside down. Brutal imagery of chokeholds and gunfights depicted in a high-chroma, cartoonish style evoke a universe where the unusual and unorthodox are commonplace. Through the use of traditional and digital media, physical and virtual converge to make their world almost indistinguishable from our own. Influenced by professional wrestling, sensationalized violence in film, and Cormac McCarthy novels, my work turns real-world violence into parody where blood and guts become juice and pulp. In this series the characters take on a more demure appearance, and are depicted pensively smoking or sipping espresso. The tattoos that adorn them offer a glimpse into the contents of their personas and inner thoughts. The ritual introspection of a cigarette and coffee offers a counterbalance to their usual ostentatious antics.

"These works are painted in the spirit of visual improv. Creation from a state of spontaneous action provides access to intuition and to flow state as well as the opportunity (and requires me) to be in the present moment. It is an exhilarating process and is so unlike any other part of daily existence.

After some time working this way, I pivot from intuition to analysis. Decisions are made about what will remain and what will change. After editing, I return to intuition and flow. Dreamlike hints of elements such as landscapes, oceans and atmosphere appear and are often visible in the final work. Switching back and forth between these two realms of thinking are repeated until the final piece feels complete.

This process of creation is just as important as the finished piece. The work feels complete when the visual elements come together to create a sense of mystery and wonder and when it resonates with the same energy of contemplation and spontaneity from which it was created."

"Never mentioning any subjects in my work, this new series marks a shift into abstract landscapes. Using bold color fields, detailed linework, and gestural brushstrokes, I hint at horizon and place without depicting them directly. These works explore the balance between abstraction and suggestion, focusing on the feeling of a landscape rather than a specific scene."

"I am a sculptor, and clay is one of my partners. I reimagine relationships of power through a feminism and domesticity by layering, cutting and folding. My current work aims to highlight hierarchies which control the way a female form moves. The vessels I make are formed by reimagining a common technique in fashion design, "the dart". It was created by male tailors to develop silhouettes to satisfy the male gaze. By randomly employing the dart in clay, I create unusual torso-like vessels. Some staddle, lounge or even pouring over the edge. This deliberate act of sitting or resting is a form of non-compliance and act of resistance. My process is laborious, but by manipulating and laying clay, it creates a repetition: a meditative mode for me, one that imbues me to the work created. It's a simultaneous act of validation, devotion and resistance."

"This poem, displayed in this way, is an encountered moment, one happened upon in a gallery like moss growing on a log in clearing—a moment of rest and intimacy with a short text anchored in Milwaukee."

"In this painting series, I use an assemblage process. All my brushstrokes are done on freezer paper in advance. Once they are dry, I peel them off and arrange them onto the canvas. I glue them down in a process much like making a collage or gilding an object. I keep the paint as thin as possible to achieve layers that give my colors depth. The wrinkles and textures that result from this process give the painting a charred finish. The benefit for working this way, for me, is that it’s both limiting and freeing."

"This body of work is my personal effort to slow down and take in more of my surroundings. During walks through streets and alleyways in my neighborhood, I found myself often pausing to admire the cityscape as a composition in the layered ways a city evolves over time through function, rehabilitation, and modernization. When the passing of time is apparent on an object, building, or otherwise through wear, tear, and repair; it reveals a moment of personification and reflection.

Finding beauty in the uniqueness of timeworn objects, this work honors the materials by preserving and calling to focus their deemed “flaws” and reasons for discard and retirement. In a world of relentless optimization and efficiency, this work is a quiet rebellion and personal reframing of my relationship to these expectations that coincides with them. I challenge the viewers of these works to reflect on their own relationship with status quo and reclaim more objects, time, and self."

"My practice is an exploration of my relationship to the natural world as a grounding and energizing force. Drawing from both the material and impalpable aspects of wilderness, I work in the vocabulary of wood and found surfaces along with reflections on time, place, and light. The use of acrylic, color and mark-making are not in the pursuit of imitation; rather, they are an effort to arrive at a hidden truth, an intersection of the tangible and intangible."

"My works function as a material diary, documenting my curiosity about my environment through discarded objects. The status of these objects are not elevated, rather preserved in their unwanted state already void of their prescribed functions. They become building blocks with which to improvise, a process which inherently favors intuitive invention over prescribed formulas. This sculpture is a musical instrument. I invite viewers to start up the machine by pressing and holding the golden foot switch on the floor, activating the “Meditative Hum Mode”. Tools from the Buc-ees bucket can be used to tap and scrape on the sculpture in order to temporarily cut out the noise from our increasingly nonsensical and authoritarian society."

"Iris Portal explores the chaos and uncertainty of the world through color and abstract forms. These abstract forms move in and out of connection with the Iris, blurring the perception of reality and fantasy. This piece embraces the unknown and not only celebrates it, but accepts all of the joy, fear, and energy that accompanies it."

"Luminescence is an introspective piece that utilizes the contrast between light and dark to emphasize the need to evolve through hopeless times. This takes place in a serene underwater world symbolizing acceptance of reality, and making peace with the past. It speaks to creating your own light to continue on, as deep sea creatures are often forced to in order to survive in their environment."

"A Hobby Horse With No Name is my take on the traditional children’s toy; the hobby horse. I wanted to create something explicitly lighthearted and optionally interactive. What makes this specific hobby horse stand out amongst the rest is how it manages to look two dimensional and three dimensional at the same time, and that it is adorned in vibrant colors and patterns."
